Experience Pickleball Onboard Celebrity Cruises: The Fastest Growing Sport in the US
Pickleball is a popular paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong.[0] A court of a size similar to that of a doubles badminton court, with a net slightly altered from a tennis net, is used to play this game.[1] The game is played with a hard paddle and a plastic ball with perforations.[2] It can be played by people of all ages and skill levels and can be enjoyed both indoors and outdoors.[3]
Celebrity Cruises is now offering pickleball onboard nine of their cruise ships. On Edge Series ships Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Apex, pickleball is played at the lush and roomy Rooftop Garden.[4] On Solstice Series ships including Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Solstice, pickleball will be offered on the Sports Deck (Deck 15).[5] Meanwhile, on Millennium Series ships Celebrity Constellation, Celebrity Infinity, Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Summit, players can head to the Sports Court (Deck 12).[4]
The Association of Pickleball Professionals recently reported that from August 2021 to August 2022, over 36.5 million people participated in pickleball at least once.[6] This sport is experiencing the highest rate of growth in the country.[7] Therefore, it is no surprise that Celebrity Cruises is now offering pickleball on nine of their ships. Those sailing on one of the ships offering pickleball can enjoy the game at no additional cost and at their leisure pending court availability.[4] Separate times will be scheduled for adult play 18 and over, or family play of six years and older, and guests can bring their own equipment onboard, or use the pickleball net, paddles and balls provided by Celebrity Cruises.[4]
Keith Lane, Celebrity Cruises' Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations, expressed his excitement about the new activity, saying, “We are so excited to offer this social, fun and trending activity to both new and seasoned cruisers alike, whether traveling solo, as a couple, or as a group…imagine playing on the ship’s top deck with views of some of the world’s most amazing places all around you. What an experience!”[5]
