Pickleball Gains Momentum: Ace Pickleball Club Set to Open Franchise, Benefits of Playing Highlighted
Pickleball is an increasingly popular sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It is played on a court the size of a badminton court with a perforated plastic ball and paddles roughly twice the size of table tennis paddles.[0] The game is easy to learn, fast-paced, and social, and appeals to all ages and physical abilities.[1] It has experienced unprecedented growth in recent years, with the Sports & Fitness Industry Association reporting that over 4.8 million people in the US play pickleball in 2021.[2]
To meet the ever-growing demand for pickleball facilities, Ace Pickleball Club is set to debut their highly anticipated franchise offering of innovative indoor pickleball facilities.[2] Their first unit, a corporate-owned venue in Roswell, Georgia, is about 36,000 square feet with 14 indoor regulation size courts.[3] Every court will have technology to allow for livestreaming and instant replay.[3] With the help of local clubs, parks across the country are being renovated or upgraded to accommodate pickleball courts.[4]
In addition to the physical benefits of the sport, pickleball has been shown to have emotional and mental benefits.[5] A new Western State Colorado University study found that regular pickleball playing resulted in improved blood pressure and cardiorespiratory fitness, and may help to ward off depression.[5] The game’s “moderate exercise intensity,” combined with its “fun factor,” makes it an ideal alternative form of physical activity for middle-aged and older adults.[5]
The Carvana PPA (Professional Pickleball Association) Tour recently held a People’s Choice Awards of Pickleball to recognize the accomplishments of its pros. Major League Pickleball is also coming to St. Louis, with Richard Chaifetz's son Ross involved in team management. It’s clear that pickleball is continuing to grow and expand, and is sure to remain a popular sport for years to come.[6]
